karahess

Is anyone interested in going together on a limo to take us to and from the Comfort Suites hotel to the Angel Ball?

Damon andSharonknott
06-17-2008, 08:13 AM
sounds like fun.... good idea Kara

AmyMiles
06-17-2008, 09:59 AM
Sorry we will have to pass on this one. It's sounds like a lot of fun!

LynneB
06-17-2008, 10:31 AM
How much is the cost? What kind?

karahess
06-17-2008, 07:35 PM
That depends on how many want to go in on it.

LynneB
06-17-2008, 08:57 PM
Thinking a stretch? A Hummer? What is the purpose of SUV limos anyway? Are they for pimps who want to take their hookers camping?

karahess
06-18-2008, 06:17 AM
I was thinking just the plain old limo that holds 8-12 people. They are the cheapest. Those hummers are expensive to rent and so unclassy.

PennyCampsey
06-18-2008, 08:21 AM
Ya'll are gonna have a blast!

karahess
06-18-2008, 10:16 AM
I'm not so much into the limo thing for this event, but face it, I gotta get from point A to point B safely since we will be having a few drinks.

PennyCampsey
06-18-2008, 10:18 AM
you better not get into that MOONSHINE LOL
oh a limo will be nice for the occassion

LynneB
06-18-2008, 10:25 AM
EWWW WHeee! We need some moonshine for Stephanie all the other Yanks! Penny, I gotta get with you and any of the other southerners. i gotta plan that'll make you wanna smack your mama! Kara you are correct I would like to down a couple of cosmos for my hommies, Shaz and Tania!

karahess
06-18-2008, 10:29 AM
I can just hear you saying "EWWW WHEEE"!! Rightly reckon if we got a couple of us southerners together and belted "EWW WHEEE"l we'd draw a crowd and maybe even a few pigs seeing as "EWWW WHEEE" and a pig call sound so similar.

PennyCampsey
06-18-2008, 10:31 AM
Ohhhhhh get her LYNNE LOL!!!
hey . kara .. get a limo company to donate their service !!!!

PennyCampsey
06-18-2008, 10:33 AM
LYNNE ... get em to play a good ole bluegrass and do some flat footin for 'em
that's one thing i cant do, well actually i cant dance at all unless i'm intoxicated and then i'm the only one that thinks i can dance

karahess
06-18-2008, 10:35 AM
This reminds me of a story . . . . one time while I was on a first date we decided to play Scattegories. We had to come up with a dance that began with "F". That was my last date with him seeing as I put "floggin" as my dance. Give me a little drinkie poo and I get my letters all mixed up.

LynneB
06-18-2008, 10:45 AM
I can't do any line dancin'. I can do some booty dancing as my teens call it . It embarasses them real bad. Maybe Dawn should have seen if the Darlins from the old Andy Griffin show were still together you know they were from NC. This could get out of hand real quick. Should I bring bail money?

karahess
06-18-2008, 10:55 AM
I love the Darlins and their jugband!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA5sWzTFhqY

karahess
06-18-2008, 10:56 AM
Now I'm in the mood for Flatts and Scruggs! Look what ya done started.

LynneB
06-18-2008, 11:44 AM
how about a little deuling banjo's!

Dawn Torrence Ireland
06-18-2008, 03:28 PM
Oh dear Lord, what is going on in this thread? We went from formal Angel Ball with glamorous ballgowns to the Darlings? LOL.

LynneB
06-18-2008, 03:52 PM
You know us NC gals Dawn!

Dawn Torrence Ireland
06-18-2008, 04:07 PM
LOL, Lynne. But I so do not want to be lumped in with Mayberry characters. lol.

LynneB
06-18-2008, 05:46 PM
That happens everytime i tell someone from my company headquarters in Illinois where i am from. There are worse people to be associated with. All of the shows taught a lesson you know. I think we better keep an eye on Kara, she may have the makings of an Otis the drunk character

karahess
06-18-2008, 08:23 PM
Now, now, I'm not that bad. I'm a good girl! One drink in me and I go into "be responsible" mode and refuse to drive. Chuck's the same way.

Back to the topic - since response hasn't been great on this post, Chuck and I are looking to just get another mode of transportation. Not that we're going that far (2 miles down the road from the ball) . . . . . .

AmyMiles
06-18-2008, 08:29 PM
Lynne you crack me up! ROFL! How many people can use yankie and hommies as well as pimps and hookers in a comment!

I will be there for the cosmo's! I love martini's though it has been awhile!

Oh Kara, Scattegories is my FAVORITE game, maybe I will bring it with me :) I also have a funny story for that game with the letter F the category was Household chore. I will let your mind wander.

karahess
06-18-2008, 08:36 PM
I LOVE SCATTEGORIES!!!! Chuck's a pooper and doesn't like it so well so I don't get to play it often! Do bring it with you!

PennyCampsey
06-18-2008, 09:31 PM
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
kara you tickle me

karahess
06-19-2008, 06:20 AM
What did I say that was so funny?

Dawn Torrence Ireland
06-19-2008, 07:47 AM
Kara, I like your limo idea.

Damon andSharonknott
06-19-2008, 08:04 AM
I wish I was going... cosmo's, martinis - shaken or stirred? what about Margaritas?? meeting old friends and new friends... its going to be a wonderful night... I'm not too sure about line dancing.. must be a southern thing??

LynneB
06-19-2008, 08:26 AM
Shaz in South Carolina we also Shaz but is NOT the same thing as it is in Britain! Shaken for sure, honey we may be southeren be are not trash! If any of you really want to get a peak of what we are all about you must read one of Jill Browne's Sweet Potatoe Queen books. Shaz I have a well loved cope that I will send to you if you promise to pass it around! Amy we plan to raise more cain than a one legged man at a hop scotch party! More noise than two skeleton's makin' love on a tin roof! Shaz I wish you were coming. I know we would have a ball. Kara now girl you know if you put a bunch of hillbillies in a limo somebody is going to roll down the window at a stoplight and say "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?"

LynneB
06-19-2008, 08:27 AM
I meant to say that in SC we also Shag

Dawn Torrence Ireland
06-19-2008, 09:17 AM
I'm southern and I don't line dance so you wouldn't be the only one not line dancing, Shaz. But it's a rock band so there will be no shagging (American definition) and no line dancing.

Dawn Torrence Ireland
06-19-2008, 09:19 AM
What happened to the bitty blue bus idea?

LynneB
06-19-2008, 10:05 AM
DAwn I can't wait to cut a rug and kick up my heels!

karahess
06-19-2008, 11:24 AM
I'm going to be the pretty little wall flower at the ball!

StephanieOlivarez
06-19-2008, 11:25 AM
Should we bring Itty Bitty Blue for the Angel Ball????
We could fit 7 people in it???? But in the back there are seats from a boat!!
Yes---my husband is also a TRUE Hillbilly!!!
The only problem with ittty bitty - is they won't allow us to plate her!
Only an off road toy.
We could only use it in the parking lot for the kids.
But it sure would be a funny thing to see us get out of itty bitty all dressed up!!!!

Kara--Shane and I are interested in getting a limo with you guys.
I rather be safe--with some moonshine in me and all.......lol
I wonder how much it would be for four people?
Have you found a limo company??????

Are we the only ones interested in this Limo?????

karahess
06-19-2008, 11:32 AM
I've looked at numerous limo companies in Raleigh/Durham and the typical price is $85 - 95 per hour with a 4 hour minimum. If we had 5 couples to go in on the limo, it would be about $85 a couple plus gratuity. I'm not excited about the price. Right now, Chuck and I have a Crown Vic that could pic us up at our hotel and take us and return us for $25. That only holds 2 of us, though.

StephanieOlivarez
06-19-2008, 02:22 PM
Ok, who's interested??????
Do you have the number for the crown vic company? Maybe Shane and I will do that also.
Are you talking about the hotel where the conference will be?

PennyCampsey
06-19-2008, 02:32 PM
shaz
dont kid yourself you' get the vibe with us too LOL

karahess
06-19-2008, 03:35 PM
We're staying at the Durham Marriott Convention Center after the Angel Ball.

http://www.afalconride.com/service.html This is the shuttle service we're looking into. Not sure how much it would be to go from ball to Comfort Suites. The price we have is to and from the Marriott.

PennyCampsey
06-19-2008, 03:47 PM

I know we will be fine - my husband has taught me many hillbilly ways and now he calls me his hillbilly wife!
Sometimes I even can get the accent!!!lol

Our husbands are going to ditch us like there is NO tomorrow. HA HA
They are going to think we are all CRAZY the way we can carry on from one subject to another.

karahess
06-22-2008, 06:45 AM

Damon andSharonknott
06-22-2008, 06:40 PM
What on earth is Aussie Mega Spritz????
We saw the Outback Steakhouse when we were in VA - we LOL
LOL about "no worries mate" - that is def something us aussies say. or "she'll be right". Steve Irwin put the "crikey" on the map - we dont say that

Corin Nava
06-22-2008, 08:13 PM
Someday I am going to make it to Australia! That has always been my dream!

I LOVE listening to accents-it doesn't matter from where-they are all so entertaining (for lack of a better word) :)

Damon andSharonknott
06-22-2008, 08:59 PM
Corin, we would love to see you down under!
I agree with you about accents..

:)

PennyCampsey
06-22-2008, 09:14 PM

OH LYNNE you are a hoot
what about GRITS (girls raised in the south) shirts

karahess
06-22-2008, 09:50 PM
Grits is something you eat not wear, unless you're a sloppy eater!

Corin Nava
06-23-2008, 11:59 AM
I lived in Charlestown, SC for a year and fell in love with the food! I think thats probably all I did down there was eat! The only thing I couldn't understand was sweet tea! It was liquid sugar!

I spent Thanksgiving down there with a woman I worked with-Fried turkey, rice and gravy...all stuff I had never heard of :) She laughed at me when I asked where the mashed potatoes were!

PennyCampsey
06-23-2008, 01:32 PM
CORIN ! R U serious you didnt know what mashed potatoes were? that's cute
Oh girl, most people love the south's sweet tea, it's too sweet for me too
i'm the diet coke girl

PennyCampsey
06-23-2008, 01:57 PM
corin, ever eat grits ?LOL

Corin Nava
06-23-2008, 02:46 PM
lol Penny-not what they were- where they were. She said that around there they had rice and gravy instead of potatoes and gravy! I had never heard of putting gravy on rice!

I tried grits-i loved them. my hubby thinks they are disgusting.

I waitressed at an IHOP while I lived down there-it was crazy, they would add a 5 lb bag of sugar to the tub of tea-and I would still see people adding more sugar after I gave it to them-ugh.

The woman I spent Thanksgiving with decided it was her job to show me what the south was all about-she was constantly cooking these huge meals and bringing them in for me to try. She tried to take me crabbing once-I was lost-she laughed at me the whole time. I ended up getting stuck in the mud-lost my shoes-I was a mess-and I lost the chicken necks and didn't bring home any crabs :(

PennyCampsey
06-23-2008, 03:00 PM
GROSS rice and gravy and GROSS to crabbing, was this lady trying to get you to leave or what ? kidding, but seriously those 2 things i have NOT experienced and dont plan to
People are here go FROG GIGGING .. yes you read it right, HOWEVER we do not do that .... and i really dont know how they do it and dont want to
i'm the vegetarian remember .. well i do sneak bacon every now and then. ew they eat frog legs YUCK..

Corin Nava
06-23-2008, 04:36 PM
lol Penny! Yeah-she was really a "backwoods" type as she would put it. She wanted to "show my Northern butt how to do things". I actually had a lot of fun with her-we were so different we could show each other new things. I gave her coffee milk and she gave me fried turkey :)

Ewwww-frog legs. I couldn't do that! I forgot you were a vegetarian! I couldn't do it-I need steak!

LynneB
06-23-2008, 07:43 PM
How about shrimp and grits? The closest I ever came to catching anything i was going to eat was picking out my own out of the tank at Red Lobster! I hate it when people try to pass off Cream of Wheat as Grits! More like it is its out of wedlock cousin! Sweet tea! Nectar of the Gods !

Damon andSharonknott
06-23-2008, 07:55 PM
EEEWWWHHHHHH grits.... rice and gravy, sweet tea - EEEWWWHHH

frog legs taste like chicken.... have tried them.

LynneB
06-23-2008, 08:05 PM
You know if something tastes like chicken, then why can't I just have chicken in the first place? I don't eat rice and gravy, gravy is what creamed potatoes are for! Now I am sorry about the frog gigigin and all but I make no appologies for the Sweet Tea!

Corin Nava
06-23-2008, 08:10 PM
lol-you gotta love those regional differences! I love it!

LynneB
06-23-2008, 08:19 PM
I think it's so cool! Corin I bet you could wow us with some New England specialties! Shaz, how about throwing another shrimp on the Barbie? I want to visit there but Ihear you have like 10 of the world's most deadliest snakes there and I am terrrified of snakes and clowns, I have dated a few of bother, but am terrified! Common Brown Snake !

Damon andSharonknott
06-23-2008, 08:24 PM
Whe I was a kid - we lived in the north west of Western Australia (in the bush) and we had goanna's come into our garden, snakes in the house all the time. My dad is petrified (sp) of all of them and use to leave poor Mum to deal with it all.

Lynne - we dont have snakes walking down our streets so you would be ok - and we dont have any clowns! I think you would be safe..

How about Kangaroo steaks - I havent tried them but have heard they are nice (roo meat)

Yeah c'mon Corin, New England has what ??

LynneB
06-23-2008, 08:40 PM
Shaz Kanagaroo is one of my faves! We have a wild game restaurant here and i always get the kanagaroo rare! I LOVE IT! You have to try it if you like your beef rare you will love it!

Damon andSharonknott
06-23-2008, 08:49 PM
EEEWWHHH - I gotta have my steak burnt lol

LynneB
06-23-2008, 08:55 PM
I like it where a skilled vet could bring it back! So glad to hear there are no snakes just walking down the road there. I really would like to visit Australia sometime. And i was sad about the passing of Steve Irwin. We all watch Bindi the Jungle Girl. Who would've thought a sting ray? Thought for sure it would have been a croc! Did you all think he was as great as we Americans did?

Damon andSharonknott
06-23-2008, 09:00 PM

Terri Irwin and Steve's Dad Bob are at logger heads. Bob has moved from Australia Zoo and has nothing to do with it - he and Terri had a major falling out about how it should be run. He is currently living in a tent on a property trying to start from scratch. Gossip has it he hasn't see his grandkids for months!! Very sad

WOW-I go to bed and miss an entire conversation!

Amy-when I saw about the roo meat all I could think was I couldn't eat Kanga and Roo!

I'm fine with snakes as long as they stay away from me and OUTSIDE. I would freak if I saw one in my house.

Clowns- not a fan! I have read some of the book IT...can't finish it-to scary.

Steve Irwin-I LOVED his show. That was so sad...I just feel so awful for his kids.

Hmmm...New England dishes-we have lots of seafood (I'm not a fan) and good pizza. We have coffee milk (Yummy) and Dels Frozen Lemonade. Besides that I can't think of any special dishes or foods known to New England... of course I don't cook, I bake-big difference! :)

Hang on just a cotten pickin minute - rice and gravy RULE!!!! YUMMY!!! Gravy does NOT go on potatos; noodles go on top of potatos!

There is no such thing as tea being too sweet. Same with coffee. I put 6-8 packets of sugar in my 8 ounces of coffee!

Rice and Gravy-weirdo ;)

Noodles on potatoes?????????????? What type of noodles-I have never heard of that! Are you serious?

OK, I have to admit-I put a lot of sugar or splenda in my coffee. But sweet tea I just can't wrap my brain around.

Noodles on top of potatos is an Amish or Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Ohio is filled with Amish. I am a descendant of the Pennsylvania Dutch.

You cook your egg noodles in a beef broth and then serve them on top of the mashed potatos. Soooooooo good! Everybody snubs there nose at us and says GROSS, but after they have tried it, they never turn back and must eat it like that all the time.

Kara - I can only think of one person in my house that may give it a go and that would be Liam - he loves noodles..

When we cook a pork roast, we always cook sauerkraut and the kraut then goes on top of the mashed potatos. Another fine German tradition.
