CHERUBS Room Rate + Breakfast for 2 adults is $97.00

Breakfast is not free with your room! I'm sorry, we tried, but this is the best we can do! Feel free to bring milk, cereal, etc if you want to save money! I think kid's do eat free in the dining room (per their site).

Rooms come with coffee makers, microwaves and mini fridges. There is a pool, restaurant, bar and fitness center. Free internet.

To receive the CHERUBS discount you *MUST* tell them you are CHERUBS members when you book the room and you must book it for July 22-25th or longer. We have to book 25 rooms to get our discounts and freebies so please, please, PLEASE stay at this hotel!!! It's definitely the best value around anyway!!! :)

I was planning on rooming myself with another mom but because we need to book those rooms I'm now booking my own room. I know several of you are rooming but please reconsider if you can afford it (we totally understand if you can't! We just want you to attend either way!).

We worked really hard to find a decent, safe hotel that was inexpensive and we hope we did ok. It's not glamorous but then, we didn't want our members paying $150 a night to stay on the Riverwalk. This hotel is near the airport and includes an airport shuttle and will also go anywhere in a 2 mile radius of the hotel (that's not including the Riverwalk or Sea World, but does include the malls).

They have been very generous to us and are allowing us a FREE suite for the kids during the conference and are only charging us a cleaning for the Meeting Room... that's saving us $1000's!!! So a huge thank you to the Holiday Inn Select!!!

We're working on the conference web site and brochure, as well as locking in our 3 speakers and kid's entertainment.

That gives everyone the afternoons & evenings to go play.

Our guest speakers will speak on CDH Research, Genetics and Repair - including the head of the CDH Study Group, Dr. Lally. Round table discussions will be held for both parents of survivors and grieving parents.

There will be free babysitting during conference hours for the kids (volunteers needed!) and entertainment for them too (clown, magician, etc).

There is no conference fee, you just have to be a member of CHERUBS to attend!

You are responsible for your own lodging, food and other travel costs.

We are working on discount tickets for the local attractions. I have to say that the San Antonio Tourist Bureau has been AMAZING!!!! They will be sending all of our member info on the conference and San Antonio at no cost to CHERUBS!!! :)

So far it looks like there will be about 150 in attendance!!! We have members coming in from Australia, Mexico, Great Britain, Canada and Italy as well!!! This is truly a CHERUBS INTERNATIONAL Conference!!! :)

The San Antonio tourist bureau will be sending off all our members info on the conference and info on San Antonio (totally free... saves us a ton of work and postage!).

And they are also looking into discount tickets for us. Usually we get better deals than coupons, etc. I know we saved A TON on Disney tickets for everyone when we were in Orlando. Hopefully we can do that again with the larger tourist attractions - like Sea World, Six Flags, The Alamo, etc.

We really want to try as hard as we can to make this conference affordable and fun as well as supportive and educational!

Hi Everyone!!

I know I have been pretty quiet on here since my Ethan became and angel, but I have been back to work full-time since early November and between swimming and skating lessons with my girl two nights a week every week, I haven't had much time for connecting with you guys here on CHERUBS. I have been logging in every now and then to try to keep up, but there are not enough hours in the day!

Facebook has been a huge help for me in keeping up though! Anyway, James and I and Brianna are seriously considering making the trip to Texas for this year's Conference! It sounds like so much fun, and it is our dream to meet all of you and your beautiful families. It is so hard to relate to anyone in our everyday life about CDH.

We are going to be pricing out flights, and we will likely fly out of Detroit, since it's about a 3 hour drive for us from the Canadian border. We hope that we will save money that way! I am praying that it all works out and that I will get to meet all of you in person! You guys are a huge reason why we were able to get through the loss of our beautiful angel Ethan.

How exciting that so many International members are attending. I have just completed the registration and we have been trying to work out all of our dates. Dawn, you said you had to stay at least from 22 - 25 July to get the discounted room. Does that mean 3 nights and checking out on the 25th? Or do you need to stay on the 25th as well?
Don't you go crying on me when we meet Dawn. I don't do tears in public and you will probably make me :-)! I can't even seriously think about meeting you and all of the other members yet - I still can't believe we are actually coming!!! It just doesn't seem real.

We booked our flight from Australia to the US today (will be flying into San Fran to start our trip). So we are one step closer :-) We will book our internal flights and accomodation over the next couple of months. I was just filling out the registration form, and it got to the part about if we needed childcare or if we were bringing someone to baby sit. Just wondering.. can we not bring our child into the conference? I could understand why we would not be able to ( it might be a little disruptive :) if there were a bunch of children running around!)
We cannot afford to bring someone with us to baby sit.. With her oxygen (canullas), issues with refluxing followed by coughing, gagging, spitting up.... The list goes on.. I can't imagine her leaving my side!!!
I know that the conference is not for many months, so things will definately get better from now until then. I just don't know how much!

Elizabeth, I'm ok with her being in the conference if the board is (we'll run it past them). The reason we separate the kids (aside from the obvious distraction of the kids running around, being loud, disruptive, etc) is that the conference can be very emotional. There is sometimes a lot of crying, especially during the round table discussions when parents talk about their cherubs and the struggles. This can be distressing to kids.

Plus, for the older kids with ears - what parents say is confidential. We want them to be able to talk freely - which they can't do if kids are in the room.

BUT, the kids are occupied! Crafts, entertainment (clown, magician, etc). So they do have fun, plus they get to hang around other kids.

And they all understand about reflux and oxygen - because either they have issues or their siblings did. I'm sure the kids will be proud to show off their feeding tubes and buttons to Isabel! We're a pretty understanding bunch! :) And it's only half a day conference days so the kids aren't going to be spending all day away from their parents - just a few hours.

But that is a few months away and Isabel could be doing much different by then and you may not even need oxygen! :)

Yes, Dawn I was told that by our hotel. They said they do not have any large rooms available for those dates and due to fire code regulation I would have to get two rooms. They count the twins even though they will not be sleeping in a bed, I am bringing the pack and play, it will only be three adults.

Fer, it would be with my younger sister (she is 24). She has a minor in Spanish from Penn State University ;) Let me know how it works with Kara. If I cannot find a bunk mate for her, I guess I will just have to suck it up and pay for two rooms . . . I would much rather go in halves on another room rather than full price.

I will wait to see if I can get someone to bunk with my sister before I do anything. She said that I could reserve one room, but when I got there they would make me get another room . . .

Kate, call 210-524-5927 and ask for Raffy - she's the person in charge of reservations and that's the direct line. Tell her that you spoke with me and I spoke with Chris and you're not to be charged for the babies (Chris already talked to her while I was on the phone with him).

We think the problem is that the reservations are going through the front desk and not Raffy's office. So far, they have only 2 reservations under the conference name - the Olivarez family and the Lane family. If anyone else has booked, please let me know so I can make sure it's applied to our conference!

We have a block of 25 rooms set aside for us so there is plenty of room and we need to book ALL 25 rooms or we have to pay for them - so let's start booking them please! :)
