Dawn,
The link to purchase the following opens to a blank page:
baseball caps, ski cap, sun visor, fleece pull over, men's tank, camisoles, women's tanks, toddler hoodies, frosted mugs, calender, briefcase, lunch boxes, and picture frames.
Is this because they are not available to purchase?

Hi Tammy, nice to "see" you and Bryston! :)

I'm able to see them ok. Is anyone having trouble?

This isn't good, we need everyone to see the items to be able to sell them.

Dawn Torrence Ireland

Ok, now I see what you mean. Yes, cafepress discontinues items and replaces them from time to time - makes my job a royal pain to go in there and figure out what they've done and remove categories. Then they bring it back and I have to add it all again.

We're reorganizing the entire store soon so this shouldn't be an issue after that. Until then, I'm sorry for the inconvenience every one.

Is ther anyway for Cherubs to come up with an awareness ribbon for
CDH? (Ex. breast cancer awareness that is pink) Just an idea!!
Something that I would be interested in and I know I could also
get family to wear it.

I would love to see an awareness ribbon also. One of those magnetic things for cars. I thought of getting the license plate cover, but for some reason I would feel odd having something that says "Proud parent of a CHERUB". To me that implies my child is living, and he's not. Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me? I'd rather have something with maybe our web address on it. Who knows, maybe someone will be curious enough to look us up.

The whole fact that most people have never heard of CDH really bothers me. Our local paper is doing a week-long series of articles on another birth defect which affects 1 in 26,000 people, and it's one we ALL know about. CDH's ratio is way higher, yet few people know of it. Very frustrating! If there's more awareness, there's better chance of raising funds for research.

We talked about a ribbon several years ago but every color is taken. It would seem rude to use the same color as another organization, almost like stealing their color/idea. Every color was already claimed 2 or 3 years ago when we talked about it on the lists. So many organizations are using the same colors already it's kind of lost significance. A lot of parents have worn angel and cherub pins to raise CDH awareness. I don't know, maybe if we did a ribbon and a cherub pin together? Any suggestions?

I'm all for raising CDH awareness any way that we can! But it has to be original and something that sticks out from all the other stuff that every other support group is doing. So many organizations do the same ole tired stuff that no one really notices anymore. For example of something different, a little wacky, but that would get noticed - have family members wear wings on your cherub's birthday and/or memorial day. Big feather ones, cardboard and aluminum foil ones, ones printed on the back of a t-shirt... anything. Get your child's classroom in on it, the whole neighborhood, etc. Have the kids dress as cherubs for Halloween and collect donations along with candy or dress as cherubs for Christmas and go caroling. Hmmm... maybe I'll convince my nieces and nephews to that this year.

We do have the bumper stickers and other stuff. I was using it and wearing it when my cherub was still alive and now that he's gone too, but I understand maybe it makes some parents uncomfortable. What if we worded it differently? Like "My Child Is A Cherub"?

I was hoping the packet parties idea would catch on. Members gather family and friends and print and put together information packets for hospitals to give new and expectant CDH parents. Get local printers and supply stores to donate, hold a 2 or 3 hour party to put the packets together and invite the local newspaper to cover it. Win win situation all around - for the family and friends, CDH in the media to raise more awareness, and the hospitals get information!

Plus the "Adopt A Cherub" logo idea for web sites - if we cover the internet with our cherub characters we can reach a lot of people! And lots of other ideas on our How You Can Help section.

Julie, I'm as frustrated as you are that so few people know about CDH.

How about all those jewelry crafters out there? What about a beaded
bracelet or pin that says CDH on it? Or even come up with a
symbol that can be used as a bracelet charm?

Just a quick thing that had been mentioned. I think getting a car magnet would be great-even if just has the Cherubs logo on it. I think a lot of people feel more comfortable putting a magnet on their car that can be removed rather than a bumper sticker.

As far as the jewelry idea goes- I would love to have a pin or bracelet, etc.. I think that would be a good thing to design.

I am a jewelry crafter and have been trying to come up with ideas to make a CHERUB bracelet with crystal beads and letters. It could also be personalized with the child's name. Another bracelet idea is a charm bracelet that could be added to over time. I found a website that does custom engraved tags. If you are interested, I'll try to make up some samples and post pictures. I also have some ideas about making angel pins. Since I only recently joined, I don't know what ideas others may have proposed already.
The site for the charms is www.charmfactory.com

I LOVE the jewelry ideas! We can't do those through cafepress so we would need a jeweler who could create these as they are ordered and donate a portion.

Jewelry committee full of volunteers who make jewelry as crafts? I know a lot of members make these or are crafty. Maybe find a supplier who give a discount or donation on orders from members and everyone can make their own or pay someone to make them for them?

I don't know, what do you all think? Maybe we should start a thread for jewelry. I'll go do that.

Oh, and I'm looking into the car magnets. Cafepress doesn't offer them so we have to find someone else and find out how much they cost, if they will make them as order or if we have to buy in bulk, etc.

Sweet story:

I received my shirts today BUT the logos were mixed up, my logo I wanted was on Steves shirt and visa versa. I was so upset, I wanted to wear them tomorrow to the hospitals : (

I filed a return with Cafepress. A lady wrote me back and is sending out the correct items, and letting me keep the shirts free of charge. Dawn - you find a nice place to work with. I was so excited I get to wear my shirt tomorrow (wrong logo but that's okay :) )

This will scare you candle lovers.

Sunday afternoon we were here at home and Chuck yelled to me saying he had to go help the neighbors 4 doors down and to watch the kids. I went outside to see what was going on and their house was engulfed in flames and on fire from top to bottom. Oh my!! 8 firetrucks arrived and got it out, but not without $65,000 in damage to the house alone. The cause? A candle!!!!

StephanieOlivarez
01-15-2008, 11:16 PM
WOW, that is scary.
I have invested in candle toppers, candle holders that you don't even have to light your candles. So, I hope that I am a safe candle burner.
My Best Friend in the entire world, lost EVERYTHING she and her husband had in a candle fire. So believe me I am SO VERY careful. She has only been to the house once since they lost everything and since Shelby has been born. I make sure I take every step in protecting my family and when she was here....she viewed how I burned candles and I actually got her approval. I truly do feel better in being a candle lover and know now that I am burning them in a safe manner.

Chuck is a rather careless guy and Aaron is, well, a kid - things happen. Balls get tossed and hit things, you know. So when I had kids I decided I was going to cut back in the use of candles. They set around for decoration but rarely do I light them. I have a oven vent on my stove so when I want to smell candles, I set a jar candle on my stove and the low heat of the oven melts the candle and permiates the house with the scent.

I get freaked out about every time I go to my dad's for dinner. His wife always has to have a taper candle lit at every meal. Do you know how many times one of my boys tries to pull on the tablecloth and that darn candle just about topples. One time my brother was over there and he did knock the candle down and catch a minor fire. And we always have to blow out the candles that are at restaraunt tables we sit at cause sure fire thing (nice pun) Chuck will catch the menu on fire.

This reminds me . . . . one time Chuck decided to help me out and defrost our chest freezer. I caught him using a blow-torch to do the job!

Now that is funny.
The things men come up with to use-really is funny at times.
I think to that- where are the video camera when you need them. Some of these things Men do-would be great on America's funniest home videos.

Coming from a firefighter - you would never believe how many fires I have been to because of candles/smoking, simple things you woulnd't even take a second thought to. When I was pregnant I was so absent minded, I left a candle burning when I went to a drs appt, boy did I hear about that from my husband when I got home (who is also a firefighter)

Wanted to share this story.

Steve is constantly wearing his two CHERUBS shirts. The other day he wanted to stop at GNC, I told him fine because I had a HUGE sluppery to work on :)

About 20 minutes later, Steve came out of GNC. I, by that point, was done with my sluppery. He apologized for taking so long and said that the guy checking him out would not stop talking. Naturally I asked about what.

The clerk noticed Steve's shirt and asked 101 questions :) Steve talked to him and told him all about CHERUBS and Shannon. All I could do was smile. I asked him how he felt about that, and he said good. He was so happy that he just made one more person aware of CDH who had not before.

The clerk also told him his wife was a nurse and when he got home he was going to tell her about CHERUBS and CDH.

That really made Steve feel good and I just wanted to shre his story!
