Hi I'm Laken Stepp. I was born June 18th, 1992. I was born with CDH at birth. I was born 2 weeks early due to my mother having a csection, when I was born they noticed my breathing and done further testing and determined I had CHD and flew me to a near by hospital where I underwent surgery to build a diaphragm after surgery they didn't think I was gonna make it through the night, the next morning I was flew to another hospital to be put on ECMO machine where I was on it 5 days & spent the next 4 months of my life fighting to live. I overcame it all and got to come home. When I was a year an a half i got pneumonia and a X-ray determined that i had a hole in my diaphragm the size of a 50 cent piece so I underwent surgery to patch the hole and finally got to come home, I was doing really good throughout life until I was 22 I had pneumonia once again and a X-ray determined that i had another hole it wasn't until February of this year I underwent once again surgery to rebuild my diaphragm again. I only have 1 and a half of lung due to my intestines laying where my left lung was suppose to develop. This last surgery I had to have a rib removed to get to the diaphragm. I'm 7 months post surgery and doing awesome. Drs say I have a 50/50 chance of having to have this surgery again with 2 to 3 years.
