I had a previous blog under Michele Lynn Howard if you'd like to read it. I had some password problems and slow computer problems so I have not posted in a long time and it no longer has the capability to post. So here is a new one. Ethan is doing wonderfully at 2 years 8 months old. He has had some colds and bronchitis this past April, but is doing great. He went to the doctor Friday 6/10/11 with a bad looking sore on his foot. The doctor said it was eczema but it was infected. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics and some put some cream on it. He said to leave the bandage on for 24 hours and it should be greatly improved. Sure enough, when we removed the bandage Saturday, it looked much better. Only a little pink a little scab. He has a lot of eczema, especially in the summer time. When he was about 7 or 8 months he had it all over from head to toe. Well, except around his eyes and nose. It was all around his chin and jaw and on his cheeks and everywhere else. We keep him moisturized but nothing gets rid of it completely. Not even the prescription creams. Still having trouble eating. He has begun drinking water from a cup or water bottle and asks for it all the time. He likes a little tea or kool-aid and even likes a little sprite. As far as food goes, he has only put a couple of chips and crackers and a cookie in his mouth. He didn't bite them or chew but just held it in his mouth. He's doing great and loves to turn the TV on and off. The pulmonologist prescribed The Vest treatment for him. It is a vest that has tubes connected to it. The tubes inflate and deflate it quickly providing the percussion treatments. It is supposed to help with the atelectasis that has persisted since Ethan had his re-herniation in December 2009. He is saying a lot of words: up, down, wah wah (water), stop, mine, truck, tractor, pool. Too many to name. He can say Grandpa (sounds like brampa) and his own name. No real sentences yet. He will say wah wah, please and sign language the word "Please" while he says it. He knows several signs. The speech therapist has taught it to him and I know a little signing so I can reinforce it. He's so big. He weighs just over 35 lbs and is 36 inches tall. You would never guess to look at him that he was so sick and fought for his life. He is still weak; he doesn't run yet, but walks pretty fast.
His first dentist appointment went well. I should have taken a picture of it but didn't think about it. He goes back to the eye doctor in August and we will see how the strabismus is coming along. Ethan's having a great summer and loves to get in the little pool with his sister. Praying for all the CDH babies and their families.
