Hello Everyone!!!

I'm a survivor!

I'm a 21 (soon to be 22) year old survivor of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. I've had my health issues that have stemmed from it, but with the help of my family and friends, and of course my amazing doctors, I've gotten through it all. I have a bit of a morbid sense of humor, but its a sense of humor that had helped me cope with everything.

In high school I was active on a Patient Advisory Board at my local Children's Hospital, and through that board positive changes have been made to help with the stay of both patients and loved ones.

Right now I'm in college for web design, and manage many media-related things at my church. I have an amazing boyfriend of almost two years and its in part because of him that I am here. I'm trying to connect with other womon survivors who have children of their own, and ask them questions, such as "What were the risks involved?"

I really enjoy meeting new people

What a Blessing to hear this!

Having lost our precious grandson in June of CDH (a disease our family had never heard of until Liam's birth), it is refreshing to hear a happy story.

    God Bless You Always,

    Maria

    Its nice to meet you
I think most families have never heard from it until it happens to them. That's how it was for my parents; the first thing that went through my Dad's head was heredity (because he's adopted he doesn't know his family's medical history), but the doctors assured them it was not inherited in any way. (A fact I'm glad to know, in the case I have my own child.)

I'm sorry for the loss of your grandson though. A child passing is never easy. I had a friend who passed from Cistic Fibrosis when she was fourteen; its been a few years but its still odd and hard to think of.

Welcome to Cherubs, Courtney! Please, feel free to post in the forums and become an active member. All Cherubs are welcome! =) It's so great to hear from adult survivors, especially females because I have a little girl who was born with CDH in March 2009. I love to hear about how your lives have played out, what you've accomplished, what activities you've participated in. It just gives me so much to look forward to when we were told that she may not survive (too many times).
As for older survivors who have had kids of their own, I think I know of one maybe two women who have gone through this. One of them was on here for a while during her pregnancy, giving us all updates and everything. I can't remember her name but hopefully someone else who reads your blog can chime in. I believe she had a perfectly healthy baby and really no pregnancy issues.
Again, welcome aboard! It's so good to have you here! =)

We have had several moms over the past several years, that are CDH survivors and had babies. One of them I followed was Laura, go check out her blog, http://www.ourcrazylifex3.blogspot.com/. I am sure you can find her posts here on the forums, but she would be a great person to talk too!

    Welcome to CHERUBS!

    Thank you (n_n)
I came across her blog link in the forums and was reading through it the other day. Reading through it gave me lots of hope.

I just found her forum posts, I'll be reading through them as soon as I get a chance.

    Thank you again!
