corin, ever eat grits ?LOL
lol Penny-not what they were- where they were. She said that around there they had rice and gravy instead of potatoes and gravy! I had never heard of putting gravy on rice!
I tried grits-i loved them. my hubby thinks they are disgusting.
I waitressed at an IHOP while I lived down there-it was crazy, they would add a 5 lb bag of sugar to the tub of tea-and I would still see people adding more sugar after I gave it to them-ugh.
The woman I spent Thanksgiving with decided it was her job to show me what the south was all about-she was constantly cooking these huge meals and bringing them in for me to try. She tried to take me crabbing once-I was lost-she laughed at me the whole time. I ended up getting stuck in the mud-lost my shoes-I was a mess-and I lost the chicken necks and didn't bring home any crabs :(
GROSS rice and gravy and GROSS to crabbing, was this lady trying to get you to leave or what ? kidding, but seriously those 2 things i have NOT experienced and dont plan to
People are here go FROG GIGGING .. yes you read it right, HOWEVER we do not do that .... and i really dont know how they do it and dont want to
i'm the vegetarian remember .. well i do sneak bacon every now and then. ew they eat frog legs YUCK..
lol Penny! Yeah-she was really a "backwoods" type as she would put it. She wanted to "show my Northern butt how to do things". I actually had a lot of fun with her-we were so different we could show each other new things. I gave her coffee milk and she gave me fried turkey :)
Ewwww-frog legs. I couldn't do that! I forgot you were a vegetarian! I couldn't do it-I need steak!
How about shrimp and grits? The closest I ever came to catching anything i was going to eat was picking out my own out of the tank at Red Lobster! I hate it when people try to pass off Cream of Wheat as Grits! More like it is its out of wedlock cousin! Sweet tea! Nectar of the Gods !
EEEWWWHHHHHH grits.... rice and gravy, sweet tea - EEEWWWHHH
frog legs taste like chicken.... have tried them.
You know if something tastes like chicken, then why can't I just have chicken in the first place? I don't eat rice and gravy, gravy is what creamed potatoes are for! Now I am sorry about the frog gigigin and all but I make no appologies for the Sweet Tea!
lol-you gotta love those regional differences! I love it!
I think it's so cool! Corin I bet you could wow us with some New England specialties! Shaz, how about throwing another shrimp on the Barbie? I want to visit there but Ihear you have like 10 of the world's most deadliest snakes there and I am terrrified of snakes and clowns, I have dated a few of bother, but am terrified! Common Brown Snake !
Whe I was a kid - we lived in the north west of Western Australia (in the bush) and we had goanna's come into our garden, snakes in the house all the time. My dad is petrified (sp) of all of them and use to leave poor Mum to deal with it all.
Lynne - we dont have snakes walking down our streets so you would be ok - and we dont have any clowns! I think you would be safe..
How about Kangaroo steaks - I havent tried them but have heard they are nice (roo meat)
Yeah c'mon Corin, New England has what ??
Shaz Kanagaroo is one of my faves! We have a wild game restaurant here and i always get the kanagaroo rare! I LOVE IT! You have to try it if you like your beef rare you will love it!
EEEWWHHH - I gotta have my steak burnt lol
I like it where a skilled vet could bring it back! So glad to hear there are no snakes just walking down the road there. I really would like to visit Australia sometime. And i was sad about the passing of Steve Irwin. We all watch Bindi the Jungle Girl. Who would've thought a sting ray? Thought for sure it would have been a croc! Did you all think he was as great as we Americans did?
Yeah - the whole country was in shock when he died. Very, very sad!
He was an absolute legend
Lots of controversy (sp) at the mo with Terri and Steve's dad Bob -
Yes I have heard and that she is dating which she is entitled to. So sad! Those poor kiddies! Atleast you still have Keith Urban, yummy!
I haven;t heard she is dating!
Yep, we still have keith Urban and Nicole Kidman (due very soon)
We did have Heath Ledger (perth boy) That was shocking news...
and dont forget Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe (hes a kiwi isnt he Tania?)
Forgot about Heath! Love Mel! Ewwww Russell Crowe, looks like he needs a bath!
LOL
i am not eating frog legs no way ! (at least not knowingly) LOL
CLOWNS ..... dont even go there with me, i'd rather see a grizzly bear staring at me than a CLOWN
CLowns think they are sooooooooooo funny! With their big feet and crazy hair!
you need to stop or you are going to cause me to have bad dreams ..
i think of the book/movie IT by stephen king ...............
Terri the crocodile hunter's widow and his dad? I must be misunderstanding?
Ohhhh double yummy on Keith Urban!
I'm with you DAWN ... what's the deal with the dad/wife ??
LOL. You all crack me up! How can you eat Winnie the Pooh characters, poor Kanga and Roo!
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh AMY!
your avatar of faith is to precious! i love it
Terri Irwin and Steve's Dad Bob are at logger heads. Bob has moved from Australia Zoo and has nothing to do with it - he and Terri had a major falling out about how it should be run. He is currently living in a tent on a property trying to start from scratch. Gossip has it he hasn't see his grandkids for months!! Very sad
ok, that's very sad but much better than what I thought you were talking about. LOL.
Love your new photos, Penny!! Cole is so darn cute!
WOW-I go to bed and miss an entire conversation!
Amy-when I saw about the roo meat all I could think was I couldn't eat Kanga and Roo!
I'm fine with snakes as long as they stay away from me and OUTSIDE. I would freak if I saw one in my house.
Clowns- not a fan! I have read some of the book IT...can't finish it-to scary.
Steve Irwin-I LOVED his show. That was so sad...I just feel so awful for his kids.
Hmmm...New England dishes-we have lots of seafood (I'm not a fan) and good pizza. We have coffee milk (Yummy) and Dels Frozen Lemonade. Besides that I can't think of any special dishes or foods known to New England... of course I don't cook, I bake-big difference! :)
Hang on just a cotten pickin minute - rice and gravy RULE!!!! YUMMY!!! Gravy does NOT go on potatos; noodles go on top of potatos!
There is no such thing as tea being too sweet. Same with coffee. I put 6-8 packets of sugar in my 8 ounces of coffee!
Rice and Gravy-weirdo ;)
Noodles on potatoes?????????????? What type of noodles-I have never heard of that! Are you serious?
OK, I have to admit-I put a lot of sugar or splenda in my coffee. But sweet tea I just can't wrap my brain around.
boy i missed alot last night LOL
oh that is sad about the croc hunter's family ...
THANKS DAWN about pics !'
COLE IS A MESS
Rice and gravy YUCK!!! Noodles on potatoes WHAT THE!!!
Potatoes and gravy - YUM...
Corin - Pizza sounds good.. and the seafood YUM!
Kara - you like your coffee sweet girl!!
Noodles on top of potatos is an Amish or Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Ohio is filled with Amish. I am a descendant of the Pennsylvania Dutch.
You cook your egg noodles in a beef broth and then serve them on top of the mashed potatos. Soooooooo good! Everybody snubs there nose at us and says GROSS, but after they have tried it, they never turn back and must eat it like that all the time.
Kara - I can only think of one person in my house that may give it a go and that would be Liam - he loves noodles..
When we cook a pork roast, we always cook sauerkraut and the kraut then goes on top of the mashed potatos. Another fine German tradition.
I LOVE SAUERRKRAUT !
Shane LOVES sweet tea and can't drink it anymore becasue of the kidney stone.
Frog legs--do taste like chicken.
GRITS ROCK!!! The girls even eat grits!
Sauerrkraut---YUCK!!!!
Anything seafood. LOVE noodles of any kind.
How about cornbread? Fried okra? Fried bolagna?
We get Kelly Sausage form Alabama and it is the BEST breakfast sausage over.
Have any of you heard of Kelly Sausage?
Love cornbread, love fried okra! love sauerrkraut! Fried Bolagna? Hmmm
Haven't heard of kelly sausage
