CDH Awareness Jewelry?
Some of our members have posted about CDH awareness jewelry and it's such a great idea it deserves it's on topic. Ok, everyone, how can we do this? Ideas? Suggestions?
Kim wrote - How about all those jewelry crafters out there? What about a beaded bracelet or pin that says CDH on it? Or even come up with a symbol that can be used as a bracelet charm?
Jeanne wrote - I am a jewelry crafter and have been trying to come up with ideas to make a CHERUB bracelet with crystal beads and letters. It could also be personalized with the child's name. Another bracelet idea is a charm bracelet that could be added to over time. I found a website that does custom engraved tags. If you are interested, I'll try to make up some samples and post pictures. I also have some ideas about making angel pins. Since I only recently joined, I don't know what ideas others may have proposed already.
The site for the charms is www.charmfactory.com

What about finding a nice chain and pendant with matching earrings depicting a CHERUB, or even the mother holding child that could be given as a gift to mothers of survivors and non-survivors, or grand mothers? Could we have it customized to say CHERUBS? I know that I have purchased the "bratz" at JC Penney after my children were born, but I had to act quickly because they were going out of style when my last son was born (2004), they came in 24K or Sterling Silver and were a little expensive.

Hi Jeanne, I saw your post on the RI forum. Just wanted to put in my
2 sense on the bracelet idea. I think swarovski crystals are a great idea,
along with the silver alphabet beads. I don't know much about
jewelry making but I going to throw some ideas at you. I was thinking
about colors: Maybe a rainbow of colors similar to the cherubs logo,
personalize them by birthstone, or pick a color similar to the ribbons
for all bracelets. Since it would be an awareness bracelet I was
thinking that it should say CDH on it somewhere. Either with the
alphabet beads or maybe a charm that says CDH on it. Let me
know what you think!!
Also, I just wanted to say i am very sorry for your loss. I think it
is wonderful that you have joined Cherubs to help support Corin and
your grandson!

what a great idea, I would certainly be interested

treasure island jewelry company is an online wholesaler that does custom engraving.
Oriental Trading has custom rubber bracelets, lanyards and keychains for cheap. I purchase from them a few time. Sometimes it's cheesy sometime it's top quality.
The heart bracelet with Cherubs on one side and the child's name on the other would be cute.

I would certainly be interested in something like this.
-
I don't get it. I'm going to be a real poop here, but isn't one of the goals to be able to wear something that makes a statement and makes people aware of CDH. When I see a lapel pin, especially a ribbon, I automatically think "awareness to something". When I see someone wearing a bracelet, I don't bat an eye. Most everyone wears them. It's like its so common that its ignored. Don't take me wrong; I like bracelets, but I'm just afraid that it would go by unrecognized and that would defeat our purpose.
-
I get what your saying, but on the other hand. There are people who see an awareness ribbon as just another ribbon. There are tons and tons of ribbons out there. I think a bracelet is more personable. If someone is willing to notice it and ask about it they are truly concerned and want to listen. (just my opinion).
Besides, there are plenty of items already in the cherubs store that send an awareness message. That's why I also suggested, the rubber bracelets (also a million of them out there).
I was thinking of something like this bracelet as more of a gift to a mother or grandmother of a cherub.
-
Well, we could do ribbons too but they are trendy, every color is already taken and they don't last and well, why be like everyone else? ;) First it was the rubber bracelets and now ribbons. How many of us have broken and/or faded rubber bracelets and ribbons? We talked a bit about ribbons over at http://www.cdhsupport.org/members/viewtopic.php?t=749 and listed what all the colors mean and which organizations are already using them, etc. For example, at least 8 organizations use a red ribbon, 6 with silver, 13 for dark purple, etc.
Jewelry can be different, maybe a bracelet or a necklace or both. We can be bright and bold and DIFFERENT and catch the eyes of others and make them ask "Hey, what does that mean? What's that for?". Just a little creativity and we can do it. :)
Maybe glass beads in the 6 main rainbow colors that we use on our logo, with beads that say CHERUBS between them or CDH Awareness and on the other side of the beads your cherubs name, with 2 cherub charms on each side or something. We have to be careful with the rainbow colors though, as there is a very well-known organization for gay and lesbian rights that used the rainbow.
Or maybe like the logo characters we can use bright colors for the rainbows for some and pastel for other and then no matter what we wear, we'll always match. I'm big on matching my clothes, call me OCD but I have to have *everything* matching or it bugs me all day, even if no know one else knows or notices - so being stuck with one color ribbon on every outfit does not appeal to me.
Some of us have been wearing cherub / angel pins for years and are often asked why we are wearing them. I'm sure Judi can tell some great stories of all the pins she wore for years at work at the Pentagon.
Jeanne is coming up with a few ideas I think? And she posted a great link too - www.charmfactory.com
-
Thinking about this all afternoon.... if everyone really wants ribbons, let's do something no other organization is doing and something that will reflect our cherubs. How about light blue with white clouds and we can wear a cherub/angel pendant in the middle? Maybe we can find a magnet company who can do that and not charge us to make a ton of them up front. And a ribbon company that sells ribbon with clouds and we can order directly from them and each make ribbons for family and friends.
But I don't think we should give up on the jewelry idea - we can do both! :)
-
On www.charmfactory.com under the awareness ribbons section there are some interesting concepts. I like how for autism they used a standard ribbon but instead of it being a color they put puzzle pieces on it. What about something like sterling silver ribbons that have little cherubs engraved on them or something along that lines. It could be made into a pin or on our jackets or as a charm for a bracelet or necklace.
-
Be careful with that rainbow beads concept - that's what the Gay Pride groups use. That might really send the wrong message :duh:
-
Looking at their site I kinda like the idea of a silver ribbon too, with a cherub silhouette on the bottom. Or clouds. Or something. I like how the Autism Society did theirs, it's original. We have almost 2000 people here, surely we can come up with something better than a plain ole color. We need something original. If we have a ribbon, it has to be one that catches the eye and makes someone say "I've never seen one like that before! I wonder what organization that's for and what they do".
Speaking of original, been looking at charms and ribbons sites the last half hour or so and can across a ribbon that said "Help, I'm being held captive in a ribbon factory!". LOL, too cute.

I think a piece of jewelry would be great!! If we could come up with
something I'd buy several for christmas gifts!!!

Id love to get a couple ribbons and some jewlery !I think its a great way to spread awareness!
-
I am so happy I found this topic! I hope to get it going again. I make crafts. I have recently been making jewlery. Funny thing is I was looking through my catalog today and found so many cherub charms. I thought, what agreat idea to make these for all of us. If someone could give me some ideas on what they would like, I could order the supplies, make a bracelet, post the picture and get some feedback. I can try and post some pictures of the charms. It is a little on the expensive side, sterling silver, glass beads. It would take me some time to make. Please let me know and I will get started on it as soon as possible!!

Maybe a bracelet that is like acharm bracelet. Like these have the clasps that pull through the circle on the end. There are many affirmation charms (i.e., faith, hope, love, wisdon, mom, ect...) I love these two Cherub charms. Let me know!

I loved both charms and the bracelet.
I would love to be your first customer.
I also like the charms you where talking about....faith, hope, love, mom...the only other thing I would like to have would be an S for my cherub Shelby.
I love glass beads-how would you make a bracelet with those and the charms? Can that be done? I have no clue what it intails to make jewerly. But I am so interested.
Please let me know what we should do next?
-
I have done so much research today! I even found Cherub jewlery boxes! There are ways to add the beads on. I am new to this still. I am meeting with a lady tonight to talk about everything. I have so many ideas running through my head! I'll order the supplies and try to make a couple bracelets. I will try to post some pictures of the charms and what I am looking at doing. Thanks so much for the interest Stephanie! I am really excited to be doing this!

( I know that just might be the straw right??)
Up top where it says search on the colorfulimages site, type in business cards.
-
LOL, Lise. Random Acts cards sounds like an awesome idea to me!!!! We could do those for CHERUBS to raise awareness and do good deeds all at once. Care to start a thread for that to get opinions and input? :)
-
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with Kate.
I am so excited that your excited.
Can someone explain these Random Act cards to me?

I knew I would screw something up!!
-
I can't wait to see it! Kate, you and Jean need to talk... she's working on one too... how great would it be if you could come up with something together?
-
I have a decal on the back of my car almost exactly like yours! Yours is huge tho!!! I gotta get my cdh ribbon! My wallet is in the car and I forget to bring my credit card up( i know excuses excuses)
The bracelet is so pretty. You just add the charms right?
If you go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby they sell some really cool charms and usually have 50% off in the paper
-
I have already designed a bracelet and have made one for Corin. I took a picture of it and will try to post it tonight. I've been away on vacation and don't have the ability to put pictures on my old computer. The one I made is with Swarvoski crystals and sterling silver spacers and alphabet beads (CDH) , but is not a charm bracelet like the one Kate is making. I have also attached a sterling silver awareness ribbon to the clasp. I will be selling mine for $30 (my cost is $20) and I will donate $10 of each sale to CHERUBS. I don't want to compete with anyone for sales, I am not making any money from this so it doesn't matter to me who you order from. It looks like this will give everyone a couple of different styles to choose from. I am happy to see that there is so much interest in this subject.

I LOVE IT!!!! It says CDH? That's just wonderful! Jeanne...you are talented and so thoughtful
I got your last name on here Kate. I'll mail it tomorrow( hopefully)
-
I LOVE it too!!!!! It's beautiful!!! What types of beads are those? Jeanne are you coming to conference? Maybe we need a beading session there! ;)
-
Thank you for the compliments. They are made with Swarovski crystals and sterling silver alphabet beads(yes, they say CDH). I wish I could come to the conference but July is a busy time for me at work, it's the end of the fiscal year for us. I'm not sure if I can get the time off. I usually have problems getting vacation time in June and July. I'll have to wait & see. A beading session would be fun!
