Hopes for a Holiday miracle to "Put Kids First" pinned on getting 100,000 votes in one day

“We are calling for a massive one-day Holiday Vote Blast to bring in 100,000 votes the Thursday before Christmas”

Online PR News – 21-December-2010 –Critically ill and disadvantaged children are counting on the generosity of strangers Thursday, December 23, 2010, asking for 100,000 votes to help win their grant ideas in the December Pepsi Refresh Project. Securing the thousands of votes needed to finish in winning spots is an uphill challenge for many organizations, but eight enterprising charities have joined forces to help each other into the winners circle.

Driven to fund research projects to discover a cure, treatment and support, they formed an alliance known as Vote For Kids Health. “We want to Put Kid's First this month,” says Dawn Williamson of CHERUBS - Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). “By creating a unified voting block, we’ve been able to tap into a larger network of caring people committed to helping us win much needed funds," says Williamson.

The group is calling for a massive one-day Holiday Vote Blast to bring in 100,000 votes the Thursday before Christmas, 12/23/10 and again on Thursday, 12/30/10. Concerned that the busy holiday season may affect the voting process, Vote For Kid's Health is reaching out to Americans everywhere for a little help. "All we are asking is that people take a minute and vote for us on the next two Thursdays and help us spread the word with their friends and family," says Williamson.

Vote For Kid’s Health includes the Brendan B. McGinnis Congenital CMV Foundation, a common virus which causes birth defects, Ella’s Hope for Early Intervention therapy for autism, John Tracy Clinic, a school for deaf children, MedZou Community Health Clinic, a free clinic for the uninsured, Birmingham Royal Oak Medical Group to provide free flu shots to the needy, Shoes 4 The Shoeless providing properly fitting shoes, National Inclusion Project, Inc. for kids with disabilities, and CHERUBS, helping critically ill babies born with CDH.

Vote for Kids Health Projects in Pepsi Refresh!Dawn Williamson of CHERUBS based in Wake Forest, NC tells us about their project; “Baby James was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia and is part of the 50% of babies that survive CDH, deadly birth defect of the diaphragm and lungs that harms 1600 babies a year in the U.S. At 11 months old and still in the hospital this Christmas, James is alert and playful but breathes with the help of a ventilator through a trach. His mother, Melissa, shuffles between the hospital to be with James and his older brother at home. CHERUBS hopes to help James' family, and 500 other families by providing funds to help parents like Melissa with much needed gas and food money so that she can afford to take care of both her sons”.

About the project: The CDH Family Assistance Fund helps families with the expenses incurred traveling for medical care for very high-risk pregnancies and critically ill newborns. Often families have to travel 100's of miles to hospitals that are equipped to handle babies born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and that provide ECMO, a heart and lung bypass machine, if needed. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia occurs when the diaphragm fails to fully form, allowing abdominal organs into the chest cavity and preventing lung growth. 50% of babies born with CDH do not survive. The cause of CDH is not known, but it is as common as Cystic Fibrosis and Spina Bifida. Every 10 minutes a baby is born with CDH - adding up to over half a million babies since 2000. The hospital stay for a severely affected baby can be as long as 1 year. With the medical bills and emotional stress that these families go through, we want to offer a little help with making travel easier and affordable.

National Inclusion Project - http://www.refresheverything.com/nat...clusionproject

Vote for Kids Health Projects in Pepsi Refresh!Jerry Aiken of National Inclusion Project based in Raleigh, NC shares with us that “The National Inclusion Project opens doors for all children to be included together and experience all that life has to offer. We conduct programs with community partners to teach others how to be inclusive so that children with and without disabilities can experience lifelong benefits. We believe that no one should sit on the sidelines.”

About the project: The National Inclusion Project gives children with disabilities the opportunity to experience all life has to offer. Through Let's ALL Play children with disabilities have the same experiences as those without by participating together in recreational activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, community service, physical fitness and more. Children of all abilities participating in Let's ALL Play have seen dramatic development in motor skills as well as improvement in social skills, self-esteem, compassion, and understanding.

The Project will bring Let's ALL Play to community programs nationwide by providing training on best practice inclusion techniques and scholarships so that no child is left on the sidelines. This training will expand the capacity of programs to offer inclusive experiences for generations to come.
