Calvo honors young girl with rare birth defect

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo signed a proclamation today in honor of Teren Pia Doyle, who was diagnosed with congenital diaphragmatic hernia - a birth defect that occurs in one in 2,000 live births in the United States. Teren's parents, Nerissa and Michael Doyle, are hoping to spread awareness about the condition on island.

Teren and her twin sister, Taeja, were born on April 30 and Teren was only given a 0-3% chance of survival. She has beaten the odds and is a healthy and thriving one-year-old.

The Doyles are hoping they can be the catalyst for more awareness about CDH and facilitate additional studies of the birth defect on Guam.
