my first pregnancy, lcdh, feeling lost

Rate this Entry
My daughter is due on September 30th, and we found out when I was 20 weeks pregnant that she had a left sided diaphragmatic hernia with part of her stomach and liver in the chest cavity, heart pushed to the right.
We weren't told until my appointment today (5 weeks later) That my baby has very little lung tissue on both lungs. Until today I had been pretty good at staying optimistic, but hearing how little lung tissue she has really makes it hard to look on the bright side.
Did any of you have the same issue with your babies?
How did they do once they were born?

    Renee,
I am due in two weeks to have my daughter. The left lobe of the liver has came up and her left lung is only a teaspoon big. Mine is not born yet and so I can not help there, but the feeling lost I definately understand. Together the lungs were at 27% when they are suppose to be at 80%. The only thing the doctors keep telling me is that sometimes the babies that don't look like they are going to do well do phenomenal when the ones they thought were going to do great end up not doing so well. I have read so many stories sad and happy. She also has a LCDH. She will need a patch too because the hole was a lot bigger than expected. Don't give up hope and although staying optimistic is easier said than done take one day at a time. When she is born I hope i can give you a great update as to how well she does. Prayers and love sent from my family to yours.
